This week’s Season 8 Premiere - “Aloha In Bloom” Episode #806- is a very special episode- filmed in 2024- when we visited Hawaii- to film The Annual Lei Day Festival…during our visit- it was so evident - that all of the people we visited and interacted with- has some very Special in Common! Every person we encountered- was filled with kindness and love- and so many people refer to this as the Aloha Spirit… it’s something that is palpable -and it’s a part of Life in the Islands of Hawaii… the Aloha Spirit is real!

So much so- that I decided we needed to dedicate an episode to the “Aloha in Bloom” - we found and were blessed with enjoying while we were filming our Lei Day Episodes. There are so many ways that the Aloha Spirit is embodied… obviously a Lei of Flowers- is truly a graphic symbol of Aloha Spirit- starting from the way they are made and the intention and “mana” that is put into them… it’s why you Always Accept a Lei- and why you never take it off- in the presence of the person that gave it to you… In fact- you need to be careful too- because your “mana” or life force is embedded in the Lei- and you need to be aware of who you are giving that too … it’s a study that could take you years or even generations to completely embody.

Not only does Aloha permeate Flowers, and Fashion- it also happens in Food- and we make another visit to Ed Kenney - Host of Family Ingredients on PBS… at his Restaurant Mud Hen Water on the Island of Oahu- where Ed created a Very Rare- Dish for us using the heart of a 30 year old coconut tree- he had to remove from his property. Learning the history behind the Heart of Coconut- and having Ed create this very rare and cherished dish… was an honor as well as being Amazingly Delicious…

What would a life in Bloom Episode be without Flowers- and this is no exception. Our Featured Flower is the Heliconia- and we visit a Heliconia Field and the plants with my Flower Friend Eric Tanouye from Green Point Nursery- where Eric shares the unique traits and behavior of this Magnificent Flower! Then it’s off to Little Plumeria Farms- on the North Shore of Hawaii- where I create an arrangement that symbolized the Aloha Spirit- filled with Magical Tropical Heliconia and Anthurium and Tropical Foliage from our Friends at Green Point Nursery- and includes a Plumeria Lei- that was created especially for me- and this arrangement at Little Plumeria Farms. This episode is filled with so many wonderful memories of the wonderful friends we met and made during our visit to Hawaii… and we visit with many of them about their personal feelings of Aloha and the Aloha Spirit.
