I’m so Thankful and Grateful for your Kindness- and for tuning in to catch the Behind the Bloom Podcast with myself and RJ Pole… Quite Frankly- it’s been amazing- and it’s been so incredibly Successful.
A Little Backstory: For Years- people have been asking me about creating a podcast… and I’ve been a guest on Many Podcasts- including Two Fat Guys Talking Flowers - from Jet Fresh- Episode 138, The Flower Podcast with Scott Shepherd, Flowers and Cents with Williee Armellini, Flower Clique with Vonda LaFever and The Bloom Show with Sahid Nahim - to name just a few… and it’s always been a treat- and I really enjoy sharing my stories about Life in Bloom, uBloom, and my History in the Flower Industry… so I was long past due to have my own podcast…

Of course- you’re all aware that uBloom and Life in Bloom are Non-Profits- and made possible by our Underwriters- CalFlowers- Albertsons Companies, Passion Roses, Suntory Flowers and FabulousFlorals.com -and The Life in Bloom Foundation - and we’re a small company- it’s Just Kelly and I- so there’s not much time to do more- than create our Beloved Public Television Series- that proudly reaches 115 Millions households each week on PBS, Create TV and uBloom… so a Podcast always sat on the back burner… Until RJ came along!
RJ Pole contacted me- because he and his wife Amanda are long time Fans of “J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom” and they live in Chicago- and RJ has great experience and success with creating and host the podcast- “Birds of Feather Talk Together” that is a wonderful podcast for “Birders” and people interested in Bird Watching… It’s Great… I learn so much from that Podcast- and you’ll get to meet RJ when he joins me on “Life in Bloom” on Season 8… where he came to our garden to give me some pointers about Bird Watching in my Own Back Yard! Stay Tuned… Season 8 Premieres in April of 2026!
Back to the story… RJ contacted me- to tell me about how much he and Amanda love “Life in Bloom” and asked me- why I did NOT have a podcast… I was honest- and told him that Kel and I don’t know how to create a podcast - and frankly we were strapped for time… with the ongoing Public Television Series… This is where RJ- stepped up to the plate… hehehe!

RJ offered to create a podcast for us… and we kicked around ideas about what it should be about- and we landed on a Format that includes 2 different types of shows…
1. Stand Alone - Podcasts- where we choose a topic and talk about that… (*like any other podcast)- so far - We’ve covered the following topics… How to make your Flowers Last Longer, My Favorite Tip- COLD WATER, Flowers from YOU- our Viewers, and RJ’s Experience guesting on “Life in Bloom… Coming up- We’ll Cover Flowers for Halloween, Arranging Flowers for Autumn and Thanksgiving- and lots more… So Stay Tuned…
2. Companion Episodes- where RJ asks questions- and makes observations about Each Episode of Life in Bloom- We started with Season 1- Episode 1- the Pilot- and have covered Episode 2- Protea - Episode 3 - Romance of Flowers- Episode 4 Carnations- that drops this coming Monday…
It was Super Important to me… to Include JR- as my CO-Host- and Life in Bloom Expert- and Viewer- because RJ has a keen sense of observation- and He asks the questions YOU want to ask… and I was apparent from the First Day- that RJ’s perspective, questions and observations are INCREDIBLE and Super Valuable… I’m so proud of What RJ is creating- and the chemistry we have…He’s the Greatest!
One more thing… RJ and I wanted the Podcast to be just as Relaxing and Calming as Life in Bloom the TV Series… so we emphasize Kindness… and we share our thoughts in a Zen like setting… and we’re both very confident- that you’ll Love taking a breaking- Taking time to Calm yourself- and enjoy some great Stories- in our (approximately) 30 Minute podcasts - that drop each Monday!
