In Episode 707 - Flower Can! - of J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom- (Watch Here!) join me- as we explore the history of the Ball Mason jar at the Minnetrista Museum and Gardens in Muncie, Indiana. Together we’ll learn why these ubiquitous jars make ideal vases for flower arrangements, both large and small. I’ll share my interview with a centenarian. Enjoy a craft to repurpose and reuse Imprinted Canning Jars, and we’ll Visit Kendall Farms- and see how Kendall flower farm creates beautiful arrangements with canning jars.

I visit the Minnetrista Museum and Gardens with curator- Tania Said… to learn more about the Ball Canning Jar- it’s rich history and we get a peak at Many Unique Jars in their Heritage Collection!

Our First stop in this Episode- is at the Minnetrista Museum and Gardens in Muncie IN. This Museum is dedicated to preserving the History of the Mason Jar. I join Curator- Tania Said to learn more about these Wonderful Canning Jars- and see some impressive examples of the Canning Jar in their Heritage Collection of artifacts. Including a visit to the Crisis Canning Exhibition currently on Display at the Museum. The Minnetrista Museum and Gardens is also home to The Bob Ross Experience- where you can step back in time- and tour the original Bob Ross Studio- where Bob painted and produced over 15 Seasons of The Joy of Painting. Did you know that the Mineral Content of the Sand that is used to create the Glass in Ball Canning Jars- directly affects the color of the glass? Interesting facts are aplenty at the Minnetrista Museum! Watch and learn more!

Tania shares how the Canning Jar is created from Natural Gas and Sand- and how the Sand’s Mineral Content influences the color of the Canning Jar. We see the mold used to create a Mason Jar… and even FOOD ART inside Canning Jars!

Finally Lois and I take to arranging- and make a couple of flowers arrangements- and I share a flower crown with her too!

This is a Fun #FlowerCraft- that allows anyone to simply and easily up-cycle and repurpose an ordinary Mason Jar or Glass Imprinted vessel with opaque paint and a sanding block… I show you how in this Episode of Life in Bloom!

Our Featured Flower is Cottage Yarrow! I’ve got several subtle colors- and share some trivia about this wonderful garden flower- that is popular- and also has a medicinal history!

I’ve included a Flower Craft- to up-cycle and repurpose- Canning Jars- (and any glass container that has an imprint) We paint the glass containers with opaque paint- and then sand off- the paint on the imprint revealing a wonderful dimensional accent- it’s a fun technique- simple to do- and easy to achieve- Then I fill the containers with Flowers- that is my favorite part… Filling any Vase, Vessel or Container with Flowers!

We visit Troy Connor at Kendall Farms in Fallbrook California- to learn how they create thousands of mason jar arrangements- for Super Stores and Large Grocers - all over the country… WOW!

Our Final Stop - is at Kendall Farms in Fallbrook CA… where I visit with my Flower Friend Troy Connor- to see how this Flower Farm- creates Canning Jar Arrangements for the Consumer Market- these glorious little Mason Jars filled with Flowers- are available at many Large Super Stores- and also Large Scale Grocers. These bouquets are cute, compact and long lasting…
