I was fortunate as a young child- I grew up with my “Other Mom” Dorothy- that was a professional story teller- and also ran a pre-school- because my Parents were very busy- with the flower shop- I went to Pre-school until I was 11- I started when I was 3- then came Kindergarten and then Grade School- but before and after School of any kind- I was with Dorothy- which is where my love of arts and crafts come from… it was Dorothy that always had fun ideas and crafts for me to work on.
J and Emily show off the Animal Portraits- and Emily’s Flower Crown- from “Flower Crafts” episode of “J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom” - Included is the BluOcean® Giraffe- complete with Suntory Flower Spots- and Red Roses!
In this Episode of Life in Bloom “Flower Crafts” - I’m sharing Flower Crafts that can be fun for young and old alike… and for our first craft- we’ll be enhancing Pictures of Animals with Flowers… Kelly- my husband and resident artist- created 3 wonderful portraits of a Leopard, Giraffe and Lion- on cardboard that we are going to enhance with Fresh Flowers. This concept is simple- and I demonstrate the simple form- by taking a small piece of cardboard and drawing a vase on the cardboard- then placing a few holes in the cardboard above the vase- that can have flower stems stuck through them- and thus making the flowers look like they are filling the vase… it’s a great Step ONE… and I show my Friend Emily Randall how to do it… Emily is my director/editor Chris Randall’s daughter- and she’s a whole lot of fun- and she’s up for a fun flower craft… I’m thankful and grateful that Emily came to make crafts with me- and also was up for my FLOWER CROWN Tradition- and we made some Animal Flower Portraits… I hope you enjoy this craft!
Here’s the Leopard in the Rain- featuring Suntory BluOcean® Chrysanthemums- and other pompons as accents- The Fun Animal Artwork is courtesy of Kelly Blank- Blank Art and Design- our Executive Producer, Graphic Artist- and Script Writer for “J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom”…
I love that I was able to use Suntory Flowers- NEW BluOcean® Chrysanthemums with the Leopard in the Rain (the BluOcean® Mums are the Raindrops)… and Emily Chose the BluOcean® Mums - for the spots on the Giraffe- great Job Emily- it turned out BEAUTIFULLY!
Craft Project with Flowers- #2 in this episode is printing with Flowers- where I used Acrylic Paints to print flower and foliages for a fun way to create a memorable art piece- from flowers gathered from the Garden… again our Suntory Flowers Strawflower and BluOcean® Chrysanthemum - make cameo appearances…
Our Second Flower Craft is printing with Flowers- I simplified this process by using Acrylic Paint- (easy cleanup) a Gel Palatte, Rollers and Print Paper and Wax Paper for keeping everything clean… this is a fun way to pick a few flowers- in the garden or on a visit to a friend- or even along a walking path- and then transforming them into a piece of art- that you can frame… it’s a wonderful way to remember a special time, event or even season in the garden. You’ll also notice that BluOcean® Chrysanthemums and Strawflowers- both Suntory Flower Varieties make a cameo appearance in this printing project… they worked great- for making this memorable flower art!
Strawflowers are the Featured Flower for this episode of Life in Bloom- and these Strawflowers were blooming in the Garden all summer- thanks to our friends and underwriter- Suntory Flowers- these plants were furnished by Suntory Flowers- and they were used for the feature flower- and several flower crafts in this episode!
Our Featured Flower this week- is the Strawflower- again- a Suntory Garden Flower- that is super draught tolerant- The Strawflower LOVES the Heat- and it thrived this past summer- my Friend Delilah at Suntory Flowers- sent me several colors of the Strawflower- and I spent the summer harvesting and drying these Beautiful Flowers- in so many different stages of opening for our third Craft Project - where I glued the Strawflowers in different stages of opening and in various colors to a painted canvas - using clear Elmers Glue… to create a Botanical 3-dimensional Flower “Collage” of sorts… I love it… and it’s hanging in the hallway- a year later- and still looks great… The Strawflowers from Suntory Flowers are ideal for Flower Crafts- you could even use them to make a Strawflower crown- and they come in lots of colors- Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink and White…
“The Summer of Strawflowers” - was created using Strawflower blooms in all stages of opening- from our Friends at Suntory Flowers- I harvested and dried all summer- to create this wonderful canvas- that hangs in the hallway at our Home… and reminds me constantly of the Flowers from Suntory!
Kel and I visited the 30th Anniversary of the Epcot Flower and Garden Show- in Orlando Florida- and I was pleasantly surprised to see so many Strawflowers- blooming like crazy in the HOT Florida Weather- these Strawflowers are Heat and Draught Tolerant and they Bloom and Bloom and Bloom… What a great Garden Flower for the summer months! Thanks Delilah!
Pressed Flower Cookies are Easy- and Super Impressive- it’s a heartfelt way to create Flower Impact on your Shortbread or Sugar Cookies- and dress up any affair! My Flower Friend Emily- likes the Flower Blooms even more than the cookies- for eating! hehehe! Find the Recipe here!
My Final Flower Craft for this show- is making the Pressed Flower Cookies that seem to be an internet Sensation… I see them all the time on all social media platforms… and they are easy to make… First I made a batch of Shortbread Cookies… You can find the recipe here! - Once those have baked and cooled- we can start to apply the flowers to the shortbread cookies. You can press Organic Flowers from the Garden… it’s important to maintain the integrity of your Organic and Edible Flowers- and then pressing them takes time… if you’re in a hurry - you can order edible pressed flowers- ready to use- on Line… I used a company called eatyourflowers.com- the Original Edible Flower Factory- by Lorie Stern- The flowers shipped beautifully- and then I used Simple Syrup to adhere the flowers to the cookies… with a pastry brush- it’s easy to do- and a tweezer comes in handy to position the flowers where you want them. Emily enjoyed eating the cookies as much as I enjoyed Creating them. This is a Fun Edible Flower Craft- and it will help elevate your shortbread or sugar cookies- and really are impressive.
Finally - our Flowers from YOU- this week- is from my Special Friend Aiden Pascual - who- is the son of my IT Expert- Bing- who helps me with our website- he created and crafted Paper Flowers for Fundraiser- and YES… they SOLD OUT… I love this craft- and I’m thankful that Aiden and Bing sent me this picture and fun flower craft to share with you!
