Hibiscus Bloom Cocktail courtesy of Cathy Hillen-Rulloda
INGREDIENTS:
2 oz vodka
1 Hibiscus flower in syrup
2 drops Angostura bitters
Fresh Limes
GARNISH: Hibiscus Bloom/Bud- infused with Simply Syrup
(“Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup” available - Speciality Grocer or on-line)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Prep the glass. Place a simple syrup infused Hibiscus flower in a coupe or martini glass. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and combine vodka, bitters and a squeeze of 1/2 lime. Shake well. Strain into prepared glass and garnish with a Hibiscus bloom, if available.
J’s NOTES: I love the way the simple syrup infused Hibiscus blossom bleeds its color into the cocktail - very pretty effect. I suggest using a Hibiscus bloom from your own plant for garnish, you want to be sure it is pesticide-free. “Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup” is a product available from specialty retailers or may be found online.
Thanks again to my friend Cathy for sharing this cocktail – with just the right balance of sweetness!
