Arrangements from the Garden- PLUS!
This week’s ALL NEW Behind the Bloom Podcast- the Companion to Episode #201- Arrangements from the Garden! Listen & Watch HERE!
This week’s Behind the Bloom Podcast- is a companion to Episode #201 (the First Episode of Season Two) - Arrangements from the Garden- that includes great tips for Creating Arrangements cut directly from your own Garden. It also includes “the Perimeter Urn”… and oldie but a real goodie- from the JTV Archives… I create the First Perimeter Urn Project in the “olden days” on JTV… back in Season 6… it’s available on my Youtube Channel and also in the JTV Archive on uBloom.com - I created it - in all White Flowers- which was my comfort zone- and how I traditionally shared it- in my Live Professional Florist Workshops for Many Years! The Perimeter Urn is something that I became known for- and it was truly an audience favorite… and it probably is the BEST Reveal- when it comes to “HOW TO” arrangements I would do on Stage.
The Concept of the Perimeter is simple… Making an arrangement - that looks like a HUGE Arrangement- but at the same time- it’s make in the Oasis Wreath Ring (typically the 15” one- but depending on your urn size it can be done with the larger 21” one too) … You can see the Oasis Wreath Rings here… and buy them if you like… don’t forget the Anchor Tape… Watch the Videos for this Tip!
Watch this Classic Episode of JTV- where I make the Perimeter Urn- in ALL WHITE Flowers- Here Now!
Back to the Concept… it’s a Huge Arrangement- but since it’s made in a wreath ring… you can leave the Central Vertical Axis of this arrangement EMPTY… (I address this with RJ- in our Weekly Podcast- Behind the Bloom with J and RJ Listen NOW)… RJ had a great analogy to share- and it’s something everyone can relate to… Remember the Clothing Racks that are in many stores… probably to this day… the ROUND Racks- that they hang clothes- shirts, blouses etc… on in Nordstrom’s Rack or TJ Max - or even the remaining department stores… when you were a little kid- you could sneak into the center of those racks- and there was a secret room inside … where you could hide from your mom… and it was your own little world… hiding from the rest of the world… (WE all need a little secret room to ourselves sometimes… right?)
J Makes this Version of the Perimeter Urn in Episode #201- Watch NOW!
Anyway - it’s the same premise with the Perimeter Urn… and I would typically leave the back of the ones I made in programs open- so people could see- inside the ring of Flowers… and thus make it more understandable. In Episode #201 of J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom- Arrangements from the Garden- I create the perimeter urn - with Gladiolus and Hydrangeas- and it’s made in Purple, Blues and Violets… (same concept as the WHITE Original in the CLASSIC JTV Episode - Watch NOW) … so it’s just modernized a bit. Remember that this arrangement is a concept for a Special Event… it’s not long lasting… because the only water source is the Wreath Ring… but the one I do on “Life in Bloom” COULD Have water added to it… but you would have to be on top of it… meaning checking water levels a couple times a day- because that many flowers drink a lot of water! So be aware!
Here’s the Back of the Perimeter we discuss in this week’s Podcast- Listen Here!
The Cool Thing about the Perimeter Urn Project- is that you are able to create Huge Arrangement and use about 1/3 less flowers- so it looks BIG and LUSH- but it takes less flowers- and that’s a wonderful Opportunity when you’re decorating for a wedding or special event… Big Arrangement- less flowers… Win Win!!! It’s also important to PRACTICE- I would never do this arrangement for the first time - for a wedding or special event… I would practice it once (at Least)… it’s a Professional Idea- and a Professional Practice… it’s not a - maybe I should do this… and try without practice project… THANK YOU!

Here’s my Two Favorite Chrysal Products… Chrysal Glory and Chrysal Professional 3- Available at ChrysalFlowerFood.com
Back to this week’s Podcast… I share tips and tricks for picking flowers for arranging…like taking a bucket of COLD Water- that has Chrysal Flower Food- (My Favorite is Chrysal Professional 3- you can buy it here- at ChrysalFlowerFood.com - use our Discount Code uBloom10 for 10% off your entire order) … and go early in the morning- just before or RIGHT IMMEDIATELY after the sun comes up- that is the time that the flowers are hydrated- and most stable… also bring them inside- set them in a cool dark place for about 2 hours to allow them to stabelize… if you have access to a cooler- refrigerate them… that will harden them off- and you’ll get longer vase life out of your garden flowers… I also highly recommend spraying them with Chrysal Professional Glory (Buy that here- don’t forget the discount code uBloom10) … after arranging… to get them last about 25% Longer… it’s a great product… another of my favorites!
