Aunt Alyce’s Christmas Sugar Cookies #RecipeinBloom

Treats of all sorts are inherent in Christmas for most - and many are traditional recipes passed down over generations. I am no exception – My Aunt Alyce, Carnation Joe’s middle daughter, made these cookies every year - not only for family but also for customers at Greens Greenhouse, our family flower shop. Special thanks to my cousin Sue for locating and sharing this edible memory – a classic type of sugar cookie!

INGREDIENTS

1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp vanilla
1 cup sugar
4 cups + 4 Tbsp flour
1 cup butter (16 Tbsp)
1 Tbsp salt
2 eggs
1 Tbsp baking soda
1 cup avocado oil
1 Tbsp cream of tartar

DIRECTIONS

Pre-heat oven to 350 - 375 degrees, depending on your oven. Combine ingredients in a bowl or with a mixer. Roll portions into a 1 inch dough ball (for a larger cookie make a larger ball). Line cookie sheet with parchment. Place dough ball on parchment and press with a glass dipped in sugar. Re-dip glass for each dough ball. Decorate with a sprinkle of red and green sugar, before baking. Place filled cookie sheet in oven and bake for 10-12 minutes or until very lightly brown. Cool on baking rack.
