I’m so excited for our 2nd Episode of “J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom” in Season 8- premiering on hundreds of Local PBS Stations all across the country. Episode #802 is “Flowers of Hawai’i “ where I explore many of the Traditional Flowers- we think of when we think of Hawaii… specifically- Anthurium, Orchids and Heliconia!

My Hawaii Adventure continues with Dr. Tessie Amore, at the University of Hawai’i. The Magoon Research Station is where the Hawaii Flower Story begins- with amazing Anthurium varieties that Dr. Tessie hybridizes. Dr. Tessie’s Passion for Flowers is Infectious- and I’m amazed at how she remembers - the NUMBERS of these Plants- as well as the amazing Varieties they turn into. In Season 7 we met Phil and Cathy Rulloda- that each have a Variety of Anthurium named after them. The Magoon Research Station and Dr. Tessie is where those two varieties began- and we get to see them growing in this episode. Dr. Tessie teaches me all about their flower breeding program.
We even take a break to arrange flowers on Location in this amazing Location to arrange Anthurium, Orchids and more - together- while sharing stories… this is always one of my favorite things to do with our guests… and Dr. Tessie is no exception- we even have a Flower Crown for Dr. Tessie!
